Pastor Sam Rockwell
Sam has earned degrees in theology and pastoral ministry. Along with his duties as pastor, he serves as the District Supervisor of the Mile High District of Foursquare Churches, which includes the Denver/Boulder Metro area.
Sam is married to his wonderful wife, De, and they have four children, Grace, Jasmine, Jake, and Josh. He has served as the Senior Pastor of Grace Church since 1990 where he began with about 30 eager church members, a beat up station wagon, and a new baby girl. His mission statement is "to help people gain clarity and confidence for their God-given assignments in life." His primary function as pastor is to mobilize our congregation to love and serve God and to reach out to those who feel alienated from God's love.
An engaging and humorous communicator, he has traveled to four continents sharing and serving church leaders.
My Purpose:
My purpose is to love God and those He has given me; to transcend myself through serving others; to be less self-conscious while becoming more self-aware; to equip and champion emerging leaders by providing personal coaching, proven resources, inspirational teaching, and viable opportunities.
My Values and Commitments:
I value private intimacy with God.
I will create “sacred space” in my personal time to pray, reflect, write and read in such a way as to nurture spiritual strength and vitality.
I value protecting, nurturing, and knowing my immediate family.
I will ensure that my wife and our children have no reason to doubt my passionate love and dedication to them.
I value a few, faithful friendships.
I will stay connected to people who love me and know me for who I am.
I value self-differentiation.
I will be clear about who I am, what I believe, and where I am going.
I value thoughtful and “hard-won” theology.
I will be honest and studious in re-conceptualizing my beliefs about everything and change accordingly.
I value physical conditioning.
I will practice a regular regimen of running, weight lifting, and healthy diet.
I value process.
I recognize that “for every beautiful thing there is some kind of pain.” (Dylan)
I value simple pleasures.
I will relish every moment, every blessing, and every gift.
I value personal and societal transformation.
I dedicate my life to accomplishing deep change and pray for the courage to pay whatever price required.
My Vision:
My relationship with life will be characterized by a growing sense of wonder, passion, and awe.
-I will create a safe place for my family to find refuge; a nurturing place for them to learn, take risks, and discover God, themselves and each other. I will create, in every sense of the word – a home. To our children I will be mentor, cheerleader, spiritual guide, and, in every sense of the word – their father.
-I will lead a church that is growing leaders, reaching and serving people locally and globally, aiming for excellence in all it does, creating community for its members, and encountering God through the formation of “sacred space.”
-I envision releasing more of my ministry to the gifted and emotionally mature in the congregation. This releases me to cultivate relationships and build learning communities within the Mile High District and in other locations around the world. I will define my role in the church around my strengths – leading, teaching, vision casting, and sponsoring emerging leaders.
-I will develop my gift for “seeing into” organizations. I will take what I know about community development, executive leadership, and spiritual formation into the broader marketplace through consulting, mentoring, and personal sponsorship.
